I have known Elizabeth (Liz) Johnson for approximately 20 years, through our shared work in the equine industry. Liz was involved in the rehabilitation and general wellness of many horses in my practice area. She utilized physical therapy, nutrition, herbal and homeopathic medicine along with various therapeutic instruments in helping horses return to or maintain health. Liz also coordinated with other equine professionals such as veterinarians, equine dentists, equine chiropractors, and farriers to address the overall health and soundness of horses.
Over the years, I have found that Liz has an excellent aptitude for equine therapy. She has extensive knowledge of western and non-traditional methods in this field and used both in seeking the best solutions for horses in her care. Liz implemented and co-taught several Equinology courses in our area. Teaching requires a thorough knowledge of equine anatomy, physiology, and locomotion as well as the ability to translate that into hands on application. It is one thing to intellectually know a subject, but it is a greater thing to teach the subject.
Liz also has demonstrated good communication skills with owners as well as other equine professionals. She can respectfully explain the horse’s condition and enlist other professionals in benefiting the horse. I felt that owners understood the what and the why of the therapy.
Finally, Liz shows great compassion and empathy for both humans and horses in her work. In my experience, people and animals’ sense when others, through kindness, are trying to help. I always felt that Liz’s patients and owners understood her intentions.
